Western Red Cedar heartwood is renowned for its high decay resistance. This is down to the naturally existing presence of chemical extractives and water soluble phenolic. These extractives are toxic to a variety of wood rotting fungi and bacteria. Cedar extractives exist and preserve even when the tree has been felled, machined and made into a finished product for decades.
Cedar is very dense, and has no immediate need for treatment. If untreated the timber goes to a silvery grey. You can retain the colour of Cedar for a longer period of time by keeping it preserved with a clear preservative.
We can supply Cedar at any dimensions you prefer, and can preserve the timber if you need us too.
Once each piece has passed our quality control checks, minimising imperfections, the batons are delivered to your property, where they are installed individually.
Every cut is cut by hand, gently sanded and dabbed with an end grain preservative to ensure longevity and quality.
The batons are fixed using the longest pieces possible to minimise joints, and fixed using galvanised, lost head nails.
