Last year TJ Lyons MD at Thomas James Fencing founded a national work skills program aimed at reducing un-employment and filling the skills gap in the fencing industry.
Break boundaries is aimed at people who are struggling to find employment. Our aim is to source community projects and funding to provide charities and similar organisations with new fences at no cost to themselves.
Our collaboration with The Princes Trust and other youth organisations gives us direct access to people who will benefit from the scheme. By giving them access to the projects and funding available this allows us to train them and give them the skills required to install both agricultural and commercial fencing types.
Due to lack of awareness of fencing as a potential career path, the fencing industry has a skills shortage with 3% of the UKs fencing businesses reporting having a vacancy they are struggling to fill.
We are aiming to bridge the gap between people who have no skills or knowledge in fencing, to having basic skills and knowledge. This greatly increases their chances of employment in the industry. We also have relationships in place to be able to offer successful clients on the scheme an interview and possibly a job opportunity at the end of the program. They also gain a Princes Trust qualification.
The type of community projects we under take mainly are for the UKs woodlands and London’s Green Chain Walk. This way, not only are our young people gaining valuable work skills, the local woodlands charities are saving their valuable donations, the public have the benefit of a cleaner, safer and more pleasant environment to enjoy, and local contractors will benefit from a source of reliable, skilled new staff.
Thomas James Fencing support the conservation of local woodland. We also offer our services to local charities to install fencing in order to preserve and protect the spaces and wildlife for future generations to enjoy.
